I’m new to Lemmy and posted some nsfw posts with pictures on some nsfw communities. They weren’t offensive and fit with the communities I posted them on. I also labeled them all as nsfw so that shouldn’t be a problem but every single one of them no matter the community has negative votes. Am I doing something wrong? Is it the pictures? The titles I post them with? or am I just being targeted by someone who is downvoting them all?
Lemmy has its share of downvoters for the sake of downvoting. I think a few of us have the odd personal haters too.
Many apps also have shit UI as far as the buttons go. Scrolling causes many an accidental down too.
Keep on posting. You’re welcome here.
Apart from the two posts asking why your posts have been downvoted, you’ve got seven posts, and six of those are the same photo. That comes across as spamming to a lot of people, especially if you post them at roughly the same time. They’re possibly appearing on people’s feeds one after the other.
It hasn’t happened much on Lemmy yet as far as I’ve seen, but Reddit was full of posts that were deliberately spammy, where girls would post the same photo to loads of subreddits, and have a link to paid content either in the post or their bio. As you can probably imagine, people get used to downvoting those posts almost reflexively.
You might want to consider either publishing less posts in one go, taking multiple photos and changing them up over your posts, or looking at cross posting. You still post to lots of communities, but it doesn’t come across as spammy.
Good luck, and welcome to Lemmy 🙂
Yup, I came to say this after taking a look at OPs posts. I tend to block users who do that instead of downvoting though. I dislike scrolling through All and seeing the same post over and over again.
It’s definitely been a thing on here for well over a year.
Ah, ok. I wasn’t sure how much was spam and how much was just people who don’t know how to crosspost.
The fediverse is a very diverse community. There will be all kinds of people on here. Maybe your content does only reach those who dont like it yet. Do what you like and try to see up and downvotes as hint where your posts are valued vs not, not more.
goes to take a look at them
Well, either you deleted them or posted them with another account, so hard to say, since I’ve no idea what was in them.
You might look at other content in the same community that you posted to, see how yours might have differed in some way if other stuff is being more-upvoted.
You might need to have the ‘show nfsw’ setting turned on. Anyway, they look like this:
nsfw
So the theory that they were downvoted for spamming someone’s feed likely has validity.
Federation takes time and if you have no users on your own instance who have posted to certain communities on other instances to kickstart federating them, you may be missing out on a lot of stuff.
You really notice this when you’re part of a small or inactive instance (like I am) and have to manually find communities and just post something in them to start seeing them populate.
The OPs stuff is also mostly NSFW material on NSFW communities; if you have those blocked you wouldn’t see them.
They were nsfw posts. If you have that disabled in your settings then you won’t see them when you check her profile.
People are gonna downvote, try not to let it get to you.
Not everyone is going to like your content. Its just how it is.
Try and focus on those who like your posts.
Edit: and here we get an example.
You’re 100% correct, and I downvoted you just to prove your point. You can make the most benign and least controversial post and still receive downvotes.
“Who does this guy think he is, claiming that it’s nice to breathe oxygen???” Downvotes and blocks
– Someone on the internet, presumably.🥰
Couple thoughts
It’s already been touched on but you posted the same pic in a few different subs in a short time frame, that can come across as spammy. Lemmy overall isn’t as active as say reddit, so depending on how people browse, what they’re subscribed to, etc. that could mean you’re taking up a pretty big chunk of their main page which can be annoying when you’re seeing the same thing a half dozen times.
Some people are just weird about NSFW posts in general and downvote it when they see it.
I’m pretty sure some people also tend to downvote clothed/bathing suit/lingerie pics in NSFW communities because they think it should only be for nudity.
I’m no art critic, but in my opinion it’s just not a particularly good photo. Not that you yourself are unattractive but I just don’t think it’s a particularly flattering photo.
And on titsonastick, I’d argue that it’s not a particularly good fit for that community. Not that your pics don’t necessarily belong there in general but I don’t think that picture does a great job of showing off how skinny you are vs how big your boobs are.
And finally complaining about or questioning downvotes is a pretty good way to invite assholes to downvote you more
For the record, I haven’t down or upvoted any of your posts. It’s not necessarily my personal taste but I don’t find it egregious enough to warrant a downvote. People have different personal philosophies on how they vote, I tend to scroll past most posts and comments and only up if I find it to be particularly good or useful, I’ve enjoyed lots of posts that I didn’t bother to upvote, and only tend to downvote outright spam, bad faith arguments, and outright racism and stuff like that, but others will vote on pretty much everything in front of them.
Like others have mentioned already, don’t worry. Downvotes are to be expected.
You need to be ok with people not liking whatever you share. That’s how things work, and not just here on Lemmy. You should not worry, they will do it because tgey don’t like a picture, because they don’t like your pseudo, or they think it’s their purpose in life to downvote anything? Who knows and who cares?
It’s the same people you meet IRL that may also not like something you said or shared with them. The difference is that IRL people can’t click on that Down or Up arrow to let you know how they feel. They need to combine words to make sentences and then they need to talk to you which is a lot more work, often too much work for most people to even try to say anything ;)
posted some nsfw posts
No. You posted 1 post. And you repeated it in many, many communities. This flooding behaviour earns you some downvotes.
