I’m unfamiliar with the electricity market. Will it affect all Americans or only those at the border like New York state which is already anti Trump?

Ontario currently exports electricity generated across the province directly to Michigan, New York and Minnesota.

I assume those are the only states that would be affected.

I assume those are the only states that would be affected.

Not in an interconnected and dynamic grid.

If neighboring states have higher demand at a given time and those 3 states have a surplus at the same time, they can sell it along (presumably at the new higher price).

And they also compete for electricity with consumers in those other states, so rates can go up, just because those utilities profits can go up by supplying neighbours.

Quebec needs to add an export tariff on their electricity too. Use the proceeds to subsidize aluminum energy costs.

+1 to “Doesn’t matter”, but also: New York and Minnesota’s electoral college votes did not go to Trump*.

On both states at least 40% of the votes were Trump, so it’s not like it’s a haven of angels being unfairly impacted. Use your blue/red paint by county instead of by state and see how it goes.

This for sure. I live in Brockville, right across the river from our neighbours and Northern New York State voted overwhelmingly for Trump. Fuck them.

From what Ford said, Americans who are using the electricity from Ontario will expect to pay an extra $100 on their bill (unless he raises the rates even higher).

As long as those people understand that this is Trump’s fault, and they direct their anger towards Trump and his enablers, this will be very effective! And we can always just turn that power off if they aren’t putting enough pressure on the trump crime family🤭

As long as people who have proven for 10+ years that they exhibit no critical thinking skills will suddenly development them when they’re met with an extra $100/month…

Power is all part of an interconnected grid (except Texas- they’re special…). It’s a complex dynamic system with complex and varying rates associated with it.

If there is more power available in those states than they need at a given moment, they sell it on to other areas that have more need than supply. And in this case, they’ll try to sell at the increased price.

Americans may care about internal divisions and states, but honestly the US is the US and we see the entire country as an enemy when the US’s leader starts wars with us. Americans elected Muffintop Mussolini and they’ll have to deal with the consequences until he’s removed.

Uup. You can’t “don’t blame me, I voted for the other guy” your way through a trade war. They’re part of this, and if they don’t like it then they’d better find a way to hold Trump to account.
