  • I enjoy learning vfx through houdini, id be doing it still if it wasnt so annoying to get on linux (im not paying for it, that 260$ a year cost is for me ppl making money and id do it if I was)

Blender is hella fun, like the ultimate sandbox game, cities skylines with no constraints (except much harder) I think with more and more addons it’ll be the perfect sandbox creative city builder. Like procedural roads, cities, procedural terrain, buildings, etc. When the laxk of freedom in those games dissapoint you just make animations, the end goal in some of these games like planet coaster is to have something cool to look at and modify freely, the economy means nothing, might as well make it in blender.

  • Maybe Linux, too lazy to swap back to windows, a lot of random stuff doesnt work or is super annoying to get working, like a material library addon I use for Blender doesn’t work for linux apparently (sanctus) and makes it so I cant render with any light in the scene so its not just the menu but the materials themselves. I was hoping at least blender would work, already had to stop pirating houdini and I couldnt get the free version to work either.

All games have been fine, but I dont just game anymore, I like making stuff and playing with 3d tools.

At least embergen seems to work, so I might transition to jangafx over houdini, can buy it monthly and I spend way too much time learning houdini (its fun af) when im likely never making money off this hobby. (cant justify 300$ a year or 2500 perpetual rnow, its an insanely fun simulation toy so it honestly might be worth that, even not making money off it) Its just annoying, I’ve spent too much time learning it, my brains crammed with Houdini specific information.

  • Seems annoying for tinkering, but good as a daily driver with minimal issues, i’m going bazzite if I get any issues with cachyos, reccomending bluefin/aurora to family that want to switch depending on if they like plasma or gnome, I like universal blue and how those distros work, if Linux was the only OS on this computer id go bazzite, for now I still have windows as a backup, so i’m going cachyos. I haven’t opened the windows side in 2 days tho, so I might just fully make the switch.

  • You’re right, in practice tho itd work like dex having your own customized environment with all your files and software, except itd use whatever hardware its plugged into, imo if it had become common phones would be the hardware its usually using and encased in, plugging in to a computer would give you dex mode, hence working like dex (but not hardware wise when in desktop mode)

Kinda like external gpus when they were popular with slim and thin laptops hardwarewise going from laptop to desktop in the same environmennt.

Would be cool for android to have a desktop mode that uses the hardware its plugged into, let you boot from your phone like a live usb (I think thats what live usbs are)
